November in Memphis means the changing of the seasons. Temperatures have dropped, and the sweaty days are replaced with crisp Fall temperatures. That also means that our Fall sports compete for their State Championships and Winter sports begin their official practices and compete in early season action.
Cross Country has trained for the past five months for their race on November 3 at Percy Warner State Park in Nashville. It is a huge event in the running community and fun to watch our guys run so hard! We wish them luck.
Football is wrapping up another dynamite regular season. Coach McDaniel, his staff, and players have been impressive with their physicality and toughness since August. They have earned a bye on November 2 and will host a playoff game on Friday, November 9 vs. Brentwood Academy of Nashville. Click HERE for the full bracket.
Bowling is in the first few weeks of their season. Coach Laura Madsen has another talented team who will attempt to defend their 2018 State Championship. They compete on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:30 pm. Come out and catch a match. It is a lot of fun!
Basketball and Wrestling began official practice on Monday, Oct. 29. Both teams have had a busy offseason, competing all summer on the regional and national level. Basketball will be smaller with many guards but Coach Luckett always has a competitive team that is hard to beat. Wrestling has a strong group of returning wrestlers who are eager to defend their 2018 State Championship. We graduated some special young men but still have a great nucleus of talented and dedicated athletes. We look forward to competitive contests throughout the winter season!
Many of our teams are busy — please find a time to come and support them! GO BROTHERS!
The month of October sees the Fall sports winding down and Winter sports gearing up. Football will look to continue its terrific season with two home games – Oct. 19 Senior Night and Oct. 26 vs MUS! Coach McDaniel and his entire staff on all levels have done another excellent job. Their culture is strong and is displayed by how they play hard and for each other.
Two members of our Golf team will compete in the State tournament on Monday, October 1 and Tuesday, October 2 in Manchester, TN. Eli Maxwell and Drew Oxley will be representing the Brothers and we wish them well.
Our Cross Country athletes continue to endlessly train – early in the mornings and late in the evenings! Coach Dwyer just hosted the 30th edition of the Frank Horton Invitational on Sept. 29. It was an amazing event under the lights at Shelby Farms. Their Region meet is October 16 and the State Meet in Nashville is November 4.
Coach Laura Madsen has selected our Bowling Team and they have begun practicing. This squad will look to defend their 2018 State Championship. Basketball and Wrestling continue their preseason workouts. The first date of practice for Winter Sports is Monday, October 29. Both programs should have GREAT years.
Please come out and enjoy our kids competing! Go Brothers!
August is behind us but we still have to be cognizant of the heat index. Our Training staff is monitoring it. A reading of 105 degrees prohibits any of our student-athletes from participating outdoors. This has forced some early morning practices for some sports and indoor workouts for others. We are committed to developing our young men in a healthy and safe environment.
During September, we host 3 Varsity Football contests – Kipp Academy on Sept. 7, our Brothers’ school St. Paul’s from Covington, LA on Sept. 14, and Memphis East on Sept. 21. Please make plans to arrive early, park comfortably, and enjoy Frank Grisanti’s food in Heffernan Hall. The tailgate gatherings and the fun CBHS Community make our campus special on Football Fridays. Meet us at 6:10 in the Plaza for the Brothers Walk. You have an option to avoid the ticket lines and purchase your tickets online at https://gofan.co/app/school/TN8740
Kickoff is always 7:00 pm.
Our Purple Wave golfers have a full schedule in September. They will play three more matches before their Region Tournament begins on September 18 at Windyke Country Club.
Our Cross Country hosted a 2-mile Murphey Mile at Tom Nix Stadium on Saturday, August 26. Over 500 athletes competed under the lights in a great event that saw the 4 minute mile barrier shattered by professional runners. We were able to host the running community, showcase our great facilities, and let our dedicated runners compete in a tremendous event. Coach Nick Dwyer worked extremely hard hosting the biggest running spectacle in the State. In September, they will face a challenging schedule as they compete locally and travel the Southeast Region.
I encourage you to come out and watch our athletes compete. I believe you will be proud of their efforts and sportsmanship. Please check their schedules and cheer for our Brothers’ Boys!
Even though it’s early August, our Fall Sports are in full swing. Brothers’ Boys learn through Athletics how to prepare….just one of the valuable lessons that extra-curricular involvement teaches. Coach McDaniel’s culture is now in place and we expect another exciting season. Our 2018 schedule includes six home games, and we begin the year on the road as we visit Grenada, Mississippi and Bob Jones HS in Madison, Alabama. St. Paul, our Brothers school in Covington, Louisiana visits on Sept. 14 and homecoming is Sept. 21 vs East. We finish the regular season at home vs MUS on Oct. 26. Our JV and Freshman teams will also tackle tough schedules. Please join us on Friday night, August 31, as we open the home season in Tom Nix Stadium vs White Station. Come early, be loud, and enjoy the Best Friday night experience in the area! Please help us keep our campus alcohol-free during these contests.
Cross Country and Golf teams will also be competing this month. Both groups look to continue their traditional success. These groups put in many hours away from campus and compete hard…. without the Friday night lights! As the school year begins, I look forward to getting back in a routine and hope to see you at the games, watching our Brothers Boys compete.
Other teams will begin workouts once the school year has settled down. Interested individuals should check the daily bulletin or inquire with a Coach. Best of Luck to all as we begin a GREAT 2018-19 school year.
