DECEMBER 2019

While we take time to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas, it’s definitely not a Christmas Break for our coaches and athletes.

Our winter teams compete around the country during this time, and our spring squads will continue their preseason preparations. Basketball is off to a winning start. Wrestling has dominated the area in the preseason and now will look to take the team on the road for bigger tests. Bowling finishes up their regular season and will look to bring home a State title in Smyrna, TN in January.

NOVEMBER 2019

November in Memphis means the changing of the Seasons. Temperatures have finally dropped and the sweaty days are replaced with crisp Fall temperatures. That also means that our Fall sports compete for their State Championships and Winter sports begin their official practices and compete in early season action.

Cross Country trained for the past 5 months for their race on Saturday, November 2 at Percy Warner State Park in Nashville. It is a Huge State Championship event and fun to watch our guys run so hard! We wish them luck, they have had a great season!

Football wrapped up another dynamite regular season. Coach McDaniel, his staff, and players have had a good year. Playoffs take us to East Tennessee, competing against McCallie on their home turf Friday, November 15 at 7 p.m. EST. We wish them well as they compete in their “second season.”

Bowling is in the first few weeks of their season. Coach Laura Madsen has another talented team who will attempt to return to the State Championship finals. They compete on Tuesday and Thursdays at 3:30. Throughout the month. Come out and catch a match, it’s a lot of Fun!

Coach Shelton leads our group of 14 swimmers into meets during the month of November. St. Georges will host on November 5 and November 19. On November 16, our Brothers Swim Team will be in action at the Bartlett Recreation Center. Good Luck!

Basketball and Wrestling began official practice on Monday, Nov. 4. Both teams have had a busy offseason, competing all summer on the regional and national level. Basketball will have many talented guards and lack team size but Coach Luckett always has a competitive team that is hard to beat. The schedule this season is as tough as it has ever been!

Wrestling has a strong group of returning wrestlers who are eager to compete. Most have been all over the country during the offseason and are primed for a special 2019-20 season. We graduated some special young men but still have a great nucleus of dedicated athletes and 2 returning State Champions! We look forward to competitive contests throughout the winter season!

Our teams are busy — please find a time to come and support them! GO BROTHERS!

OCTOBER 2019

The month of October sees the Fall sports winding down and Winter sports gearing up. Football will look to continue its terrific season with three Home games: October 4 vs undefeated Briarcrest, October 18 vs. SBA and Senior Night on October 25 vs Wooddale! Coach McDaniel and his entire staff on all levels have done another excellent job. Both the Freshman and JV teams are undefeated.

Our Region Champion Golf team is competing in the State tournament today in Manchester, Tennessee. Junior Drew Oxley was the Medalist at Windyke Country Club on Wednesday, September 18. This group, under first-year head coach Ben Barksdale ’00, has had a amazing year!

Our Cross Country athletes continue to endlessly train – early in the mornings and late in the evenings! Coach Dwyer hosted the 31st annual Frank Horton Invitational this past Friday and Saturday, a one-of-a-kind distance running event under the lights at Shelby Farms. Their Region Championship is October 26 and the State Meet in Nashville is November 2.

Coach Laura Madsen has selected our Bowling Team and will begin competing this month. This squad will look to add another State Championship to their impressive program accolades. The team is led by Senior Co-Captains Tony Craig and Austin Ashe.

SEPTEMBER 2019

August is behind us but we still have to be cognizant of the heat index. Our Training staff is monitoring it. A reading of 105 degrees prohibits any of our student-athletes from participating outdoors. This has forced some early morning practices for some sports and indoor workouts for others. We are committed to developing our young men in a healthy and safe environment.

During September, we host 2 Varsity Football contests – White Station on Sept. 13 and Pope John Paul II on Sept. 20. Please make plans to arrive early, park comfortably, and enjoy food in Heffernan Hall beginning at 5:30 p.m. The tailgate gatherings and the fun CBHS Community make our campus special on Football Fridays. Meet us at 6:10 on the Plaza for the Brothers Walk.

Kickoff is always 7:00 pm., and remember, you have an option to avoid the ticket lines and purchase your tickets online.

Our September 20 contest vs Pope John Paul II is Homecoming/Reunion Weekend! Friday evening at 5:30 pm, there is a pre-game gathering of alumni classes in Heffernan Hall, with a Leonard’s BBQ buffet for alumni and their families, photos, and tickets to the Homecoming game. MARCH 2019

April means our eight spring sports are busy! Hopefully, the cold, wet weather is behind us and we can get into the groove of competing! This early Spring has been incredibly difficult for our teams to get their practices and games in but we hope to get in a rhythm soon. Come out and see us in action! Track just returned from a great showing at a prestigious meet in New Orleans, LA and now hosts Home meets every Tuesday in April. Lacrosse enters conference play and will travel to St. Louis and Nashville while hosting Chattanooga Baylor and McCallie. Baseball travels to Little Rock for a weekend tournament April 5-6. Soccer is off to a great start and will play in two upcoming tournaments – one in Foley, Alabama, April 5-6 and one locally, April 11-13. Tennis, Water Polo, Trap are all competing as well.

Fall and winter sports are busy preparing for their upcoming seasons. On every afternoon, you can walk the campus and see every field and gym space covered with our students training, competing, learning, growing and smiling. It is wonderful to see!

Game schedules can be found HERE on the School calendar.

Come out to a game, meet, or match and you will see why it’s great to a Brothers’ Boy!

MARCH 2019

February saw our Wrestling program finish off another incredible season! Congratulations to all of the wrestlers, Head Wrestling Coach Derek Harrison, and all of the assistant coaches. The wrestling team finished 3rd in the State Duals and also 3rd in the State Individual Tournament. CBHS had two individual State Champions: Garrett Bowers (13) and Al Wooten (220). This team is a great example of the hard work and perseverance of our Brothers’ Boys and a true commitment from their families.

WrestlingWooten

They were not finished just yet as the successful season earned the team an invitation to the prestigious Prep Nationals at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA. Three more CBHS wrestlers earned All-American status – Garrett Bowers, Aidan Bowers, and Montana Doty! Earning team points, our squad finished 12th in the Nation at this top level event!

WrestlingBowers

The Swim team competed well at the State Meet in Knoxville. Nicholas Harviel finished 12th in the 500 freestyle. Many others recorded their fastest times of the season! Thanks to Coach Whitney Shelton for her time leading this squad.

Our Varsity Basketball program ended another successful year with a tough quarterfinal loss to Chattanooga Baylor on Saturday, February 23. Coach Luckett and his staff had some big wins with a young team and finished with a 20-9 record. The future looks bright for Basketball.

March kicks off the most active three-month period in CBHS athletics! It also happens to be our most unpredictable weather in the Mid-South! We will have 7 sports competing and 15 teams – (Soccer, Lacrosse, Track, Baseball, Rugby, Tennis, Water Polo, & Trap Shooting). Without a doubt, we will have teams competing every single day! Please be flexible and understand that the weather, facilities, officials, and opponents all factor into after school activities. Practice and game schedules tend to change within the hour. Sports sanctioned by the TSSAA may begin official games on Monday, March 11. Other sports may have begun earlier. We are excited to watch these athletes participate! They have put in hours preparing and should have successful seasons. Please get out to a contest and enjoy watching them compete!

March kicks off the most active 3 month period in CBHS Athletics! It also happens to be our most unpredictable weather in the Mid-South! We will have 7 sports competing and 15 teams – (Soccer, Lacrosse, Track, Baseball, Rugby, Tennis, Water Polo, & Trap Shooting) Without a doubt, we will have someone competing EVERYDAY! Please be flexible and understand that the weather, facilities, officials, and opponents all factor into after school activities. Practice and game schedules tend to change within the hour. Sports sanctioned by the TSSAA may begin official games on Monday, March 12. Other sports may have begun earlier. We are excited to watch these athletes participate! They have put in hours preparing and should have successful seasons. Please get out to a contest and enjoy watching them compete!

FEBRUARY

As we roll into February, we would like to acknowledge the wonderful accomplishment of Coach Laura Madsen and the 2018 Brothers Bowling team. On Saturday, February 20, they captured the TSSAA State Championship in Smyrna, TN. A day earlier, Senior Jackson Stanley took home the Individual Bowling State Championship. It was a special weekend watching our guys compete at the highest level and overcoming last year’s runner-up finish!

We have a two other programs poised for a run at their own State Championships: Wrestling and Basketball. Coach Derek Harrison leads an experienced and talented Wrestling program that has been dominant the entire season. Last weekend, they won the West Region Team Championship with a combined score of 216-13. They have two shots at winning a State Championship – once as Team in the Dual Championship and then again as they earn points in the Individual State Tournament. Basketball is the thick of Region play on Friday nights. Our record stands at 17-5 and 1-1 in Region play. Friday home games are a Special event. Make plans to arrive early and watch these guys compete Hard!

NOVEMBER

November in Memphis means the changing of the Seasons. Temperatures have dropped, and the sweaty days are replaced with crisp Fall temperatures. That also means that our Fall sports compete for their State Championships and Winter sports begin their official practices and compete in early season action.

Cross Country has trained for the past 5 months for their race on November 4 at Percy Warner State Park in Nashville. It is a huge event in the running community and fun to watch our guys run so hard! We wish them luck.

Football team

Football is wrapping up a historic, undefeated regular season and claimed the 2017 Region Championship. Coach McDaniel, his staff, and players have been impressive with their physicality and toughness since August. They have earned a bye on November 3, will host a playoff game on November 10, and (hopefully) host the Semi-finals on November 17. Here is the bracket: http://tssaasports.com/event/bracket.cfm?id=20170109

The TSSAA D2AAA State Championship Game is Saturday, Dec. 2 in Cookeville, TN at 7:00 PM. We hope to be there and hope you will join us!

Bowling is in the first few weeks of their season. Coach Laura Madsen has a veteran team of talented bowlers who look to improve upon their State Runner-up finish last year. They compete on Tuesday and Thursdays at 3:30. Come out and catch a match. It is a lot of Fun!

Basketball and Wrestling began official practice on Monday, Oct. 30. Both teams have had a busy offseason, competing all summer on the regional and national level. Basketball will have to replace a special group of graduated seniors but Coach Luckett always has a competitive team that is hard to beat. Wrestling has a strong group of returning wrestlers who have put in time and work to have a special year.
